ABOUT
"Sculpting beauty in a flawed reality, a creative room."
room 22 : 22 is a Seattle-based creative studio founded by Shin, an artist, designer, and photographer. Shin’s creative journey, rooted in a lifelong pursuit of beauty, began with an innate urge to explore various forms of creation but found their true medium upon discovering photography at age 17. The instant connection to photography led to a series of competitions, including winning the Professional Photographers of Washington (PPW) Student Photographer of the Year award in 2018. Shin’s passion for visual storytelling was shaped by a deep obsession with the concept of "pretty." This obsession was sparked during childhood, in moments where beauty cut through the emotional numbness of life. This search for "pretty" has since evolved into the driving force behind every project at room 22 : 22.
Alongside a shift to study architecture in college—a discipline that deeply influences Shin’s design work—photography remained a central part of their artistic identity. Though academic demands paused this passion, the skills acquired in architecture, furniture design, and art have since become invaluable to room 22 : 22’s creative offerings.
"room 22 : 22 is a space where imperfections tell stories, and beauty is sculpted by altering one's perception."
After working in the architecture field and graduating, Shin has returned to photography, now bringing a richer skill set and deeper perspective. This is showcased in their first short collection, Time to Reminisce (2023), a reflection of Shin’s journey back to their original passion.
Shin’s work invites viewers to find their own version of "pretty" in a world that often feels flawed. Whether you're an art enthusiast, design lover, or someone seeking inspiration in the everyday, room 22 : 22 welcomes you into a world where beauty is not just seen, but felt.
